Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is one of the best budget oriented smartphone from Xiaomi which comes under Android One program. The smartphone was launched in the last July and it was powered by Android 8.1 Oreo. Since the smartphone comes under Android One, all the customers are expecting the Android 9 (P / Pie) on their favorite Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite too.
Mi A2 Lite was Xiaomi’s 3rd Android One device and this was the 2nd handset from the company which is now receiving Android Pie update. Last week the company rolled out the official P update to Mi A2 and at the same time the company started the beta testing process for the Mi A2 Lite also. Some people from different part received the Beta update and now the company started rolling out the Official Stable version to its Mi A2 Lite Users.
Since there where no customization from the company as it comes under Android One, the release was bit speedy. And it is also noted that, there where no much bugs spotted on the beta version. This made the company to release the official build so quickly. Currently the official stable version has been made available to the Users in Poland and Indonesia Only. And the availability to the users in the other region will be made in the coming days.

So, there is one two options available, either you can wait for few more days or weeks to get the official version released in your region, or you can do some simple trick to get the update right now. I will explain you how to get the Official Stable Android Pie update on your Mi A2 Lite instantly.
Note, we are downloading the update using the WiFi connection, because if we are using mobile data, the SIM location may be checked and hence the update will not be available to you. So we need to search the update using a VPN with the locations Poland or Indonesia. So make sure, you are using Wifi for this. if you don’t have WiFi connection, then use a Wifi Hotspot from another mobile.
Step 1: Download any VPN application from the play store which have the VPN locations Poland or Indonesia. There are so many application available, you can download anyone that works with you.
Step 2: Remove SIM card from your Mobile.
Step 3: Open VPN application and and connect to ‘Poland’ or ‘Indonesia’ Location (Currently these 2 locations are only working).
Step 4: Go to settings, then select ‘Apps & notifications’
Step 5: Click on ‘See All apps’. Then click on the menu over right top (3 dots) and click ‘show system’.
Step 6: Now, you have to clear data for all the below listed applications
- Fused Location
- Google App
- Google Backup Transport
- Google Play Services
- Google Services Framework
- LocationServices
Note: to clear data for each app, you need to click on the app, then in the next page, click on the ‘Storage’, then click on the ‘Clear Data’ or ‘Clear Storage’ option. Do the same process for all the above applications.

Step 7: Make sure that, you are connected to the Wifi, since we are using WiFi connection here.
Step 8: Double check and make sure you are connected to Poland or Indonesia Location using VPN.
Step 9: Goto Settings, then ‘System’ and click on ‘System Update’. Click on ‘Check for update’.
Step 10: Now, it will search for update and if you done all the steps correctly. you will get the update. Click on the ‘Download and Install’ button.
Step 11: The update will be 1002.8 MB size, so it will take some time to download. Once the download has started, you can see the progress bar and a ‘Pause’ button on the screen.
Step 12: Since we are now connected to a VPN, the download speed will be very low and it will take a long time to finish. So what we need to do next is, click on the ‘Pause’ button.
Step 13: Now, disconnect the VPN. Now, go back to the update section and click on ‘Resume’ to resume the download.
Note: we are only switching the location to Poland/Indonesia only to get the download notification of the Android P. Once we received the update and started downloading, then no need to use VPN (unless you are using a high speed VPN).
Step 14: Lets the download to finish. Then after download, the system will start applying the update automatically. Once done, a ‘Restart’ button will appear.
Step 15: Click on ‘Restart Now’. Now your phone will reboot. It will take few additional minutes than the normal boot (5 to 10 minutes), since it is applying the updates. So please don’t get scared and don’t try to restart or switch off. Lets wait until it finished.

Step 16: Done, once rebooted, your phone will be updated with the fresh Android Pie with some new features such as FM Radio, Adaptive battery and brightness. New Gesture control home etc.
Note: We are only changing the location to get the update quickly. The update will be same and official all around the world, so don’t think that it is a custom ROM or unstable or unofficial. The company is releasing the update in batch for each country. So some users will get it quicly, whereas some others lastly. Here we are just pretending as the one from the first batch of country only. Its official and stable.
Hello, I would like to know if security updates will continue to come normally after using this method?
Definitely, since its Android One mobile, you will get the update regularly. As i mentioned, this is the official update from the company itself. No difference in that.
Çook teşekkür ederim bu çok güzel şuanda Türkiye’de ilk defa xiaomi a2 lite cihazında android pie’yi kullanan kişi olacağım şuanda güncelleniyor olmayacak diye ümit kestim ama gerek yokmuş cidden efsane thank you techrounder.

I am crazy. I tried thousand times carefully but it cant. Try everything. I delete all permissions, used fake location app but not change situation 🙁

Hi Hector,
Thank you for the update. As like you mentioned, in some case it is necessary to do clearing the data of Play Store app too. But in most case the above method is working without the Play Store too. It worked for me too without clearing cache of Play Store app. But your information is very useful. If anyone facing issue in updating the mobile can try this too to get the Pie update on their mobile.
I followed each step correctly but system update doesn’t seem to detect the update even when connected to indonesia or poland through vpn.. It’s so sad..
may be the cached data in one of the app is not cleared correctly. Did you double checked the IP address after connecting to VPN ?
thanx Vipin for the article,
unfortunately it didnt work for me.
Actually, now it reports “Updates are temporarily unavailable” (I did all the steps precisely)
Aleks, can you let me know, which location you choose ?
