Jio International Roaming Activation And Known Issues

Reliance Jio now becomes the best telecom network in India who provides both national and international service to its users. Within a short term period, the company become the best top company in India who adds more users to its network every month.

Initially, the service was only available in India with its VoLTE unlimited voice calls and data. Later the telecom company started International Roaming (IR) facility to its users. With the rollout of IR service, Jio did another milestone by providing one of the world’s cheapest IR services. Jio’s IR service starts from Rs. 2, ie Rs. 2 for the call, SMS and data whereas other providers charging their users at a rate between Rs. 40 to Rs. 200/-

Jio’s strategy for IR service also helped them to add a large number of users to their network. Especially NRI’s who prefers to keep an Indian number with them while they are outside India now prefers Jio SIM. So that they can use the Indian number form the international location to make and receive calls at a very cheap price.

Issues with Jio’s international Roaming

While using Jio SIM in the international location, we experienced a lot of issues in the beginning. Initially, the same issue was there for most of the users. In the first few days, the service seems to be fine and both incoming and outgoing facility was working. Later, the signal disappeared one morning.

The main issue was due to the connectivity and it is not being registered to the partner network. We spent about 2 weeks to get this sorted and the experience with Customer care was not at all good. We shared our experience in our previous article and you can check that for more details. The only good thing was the issue got resolved after a series of conversations.

The issue that we faced, was not a special case, we got messages from a lot of people mentioning the same from different locations. Also, things didn’t finish yet. For the past few months, some other issues being reported.

The SIM is active and you can make calls, can use data and able to send SMS, no issues at all. But when someone tries to call you on your Jio number, they cannot reach you. They are getting a message saying ‘The number is being switched off’. Thus the new issue is causing an incoming issue in which you might miss some calls. The issue is strange in which it will work seamlessly sometime, whereas not in some cases.

We already reported the issue with the customer care and waiting for the reply and to get it resolved.

Conclusion

As said in the beginning, Jio is the cheapest network in India and somehow in the world which provides the IR service. But, at the same time, we need a good network also. There is no meaning in paying the amount and not getting service. So in terms of service, we cannot say that Jio is the best network who provides IR services.

If you are the one who needs to receive and make important calls using your number, then as of now, Jio will not be a good choice. You can use Jio number, but for safety, make sure to keep another SIM card such as Airtel or Vodafone with you. Considering the services, both Airtel and Vodafone offer the best consistent service all the time.

    • You need to activate the International Roaming service using an IR pack first, If you are looking to receive SMS only, then it is not necessary to do recharge monthly. Incoming SMS is free.

  10. Is it possible, after activate the IR service to use the normal packs in abroad which I do in India generally?

    • You can recharge with a normal pack while abroad, Recharge is mandatory to make and receive calls. But normal packs will only give you validity while abroad. To make and receive calls, you need to recharge with Topup packs starting from Rs. 10.

    • Hi Sahil,

It is true that Jio users are facing issues all the time. In your case, it might be more complicated. The only solution is to call customer care and ask for their help. Since you are travelling frequently it is not easy to call them all the time.

What I can recommend is that, since you didn’t face any issue with Airtel, better to consider that once you reach India.

  12. Hi Vipin,
I have JIO sim and current pack is valid till April 7th 2022. Just recharged IR with Rs. 1102. The pack is in Queue now. Do I need to request to start the IR?
another question – can I recharge annual plan on top of IR ?

    Reply
    • Hi Sesi,

IR pack is not a regular plan voucher. If the plan is in the queue, your number is probably still in India. The IR pack gets activated only once you reach abroad.
IR pack is a one-time plan, and you don’t need to recharge twice. After the initial recharge, you only need to perform regular plan vouchers and Talktime plans.

Additionally, if you wish, you can repeat the IR pack as many times you want for the IR Talktime offered with the pack.
