It is now passed the final deadline from TRAI to implement the new rule for all the DTH and Cable TV network in India. By the end of 2018 TRAI gave the final notification to the Cable and DTH providers in India to migrate all their customers to the new plan as per the new rule for DTH and Cable TV.

Initially the deadline was set as December 28th and later it was extended to January 31st. TRAI also made it clear in another statement that the deadline will not be extended further. Now, the final deadline is also passed. If you did not choose the channels as per the new rule and you are still getting all your channels as like before, don’t think that it will be available as like for ever.

Last week TRAI informed all the providers that, those who didn’t choose the channels and hence not migrated to the new scheme should not get any paid channels from their current plan. In that case, all the paid channels will be stopped or removed from their package and only free channels will be available from February 7th onwards.

TRAI also asked the providers to give the users time till February 6th to choose their channels. For those who didn’t do that, will get time till February 6th, otherwise all the paid channels will be lost. Don’t get afraid that your connection will be canceled if you failed to migrate before February 6th.

There is no such issue, only thing that is going to happen is that, all your paid channels will be removed and you will only get free to air channels after that. Even after February 6th, you can choose the channels and pay for that. From that time onwards you will get all the selected paid channels.

What about the Pricing

Regarding the pricing, it is still not economical in some cases. Because of the high rate of some selected channels, the overall pricing will be much higher for some users. If you are planning to get all the paid channels, then the total amount will be very high.

But if you are just used to watch few channels, then the price will be little cheaper. Some channel network such as Star and Sun network has given their channels with the higher pricing of Rs. 19 each. If you are watching those channels, then the amount will be higher.

But on the other side, some network has given their channels with Rs. 0.10, Rs. 0.50 etc. For example, discovery network have given all their channels at very cheap price. You will get all their channels at Rs. 10 to Rs. 15, where as one channel from star group will charge you Rs. 19. You can check our article in which how the subscription rate will going to change.

Another advantage with this new rule, is the choice of selection. You can choose SD or HD channels. Even in the free 100 channels of the base Rs. 154, you can choose Free to Air HD channel also. But unfortunately there is only one Free HD channel named Mazhavil Manorma HD is available and it is a regional channel in Malayalam. Users will have the power to choose what to watch and what not to. User can select and pay for particular channels occasionally also. If you want to remove, simply ask your dth or cable tv provider to remove and select another channel if needed.
