Tech to Keep You Occupied During the Pandemic

The coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic has turned our lives upside down. No matter who you are or where you are in the world, chances are you’ve experienced some sort of negative change as a direct result of this virus and the measures that have been put in place to control its spread. Our routines have completely changed and many of us – almost one year into this pandemic – are beginning to struggle.

We are feeling lonely. We are feeling bored. We’re looking for things to do that don’t require others and that we can carry out from inside our own homes. This, of course, can be difficult. But there are, fortunately, a number of gadgets out there that can help to add some sort of structure or enjoyment – and a sense of normality or positivity – to your day-to-day life. Here are some recommendations!

A Kindle

All of us tend to have a list of books that we want to read but have never had the chance to get around to. Whatever your interests or chosen genre – fantasy, romance, sci-fi, detective novels, factual books, historic novels, classics – there’s an endless choice of written work out there that you’re likely to enjoy. Of course, with our usual hectic routines, we wouldn’t have the chance to so much as open a book, never mind finish it. But right now, many of us have found ourselves with more time on our hands.

If you’re working from home, you no longer have to commute and may have an extra hour or two available to you every weekday. Seeing as we can’t go out and many stores and venues are closed, we have our evenings and weekends free. So, now may be the time to finally tackle that list of books that you want. Now, you could buy the paperback or hardback copies.

But this can be costly and can take up a lot of space in your home. Instead, you might want to consider a Kindle or other brand of E-reader. This will allow you to download the books you want to read – often at a lower cost – and will store them all neatly in one device. This is ideal!

Games Consoles

Gaming has dramatically increased in popularity over the past year. Why? Well, it’s the ultimate form of escapism. Gaming allows you to enter other worlds, putting your worries and troubles out of your mind for a while and helping you to immerse yourself in another world, full of challenges and quests. Of course, gaming shouldn’t be used as a coping mechanism and you need to make sure that you moderate your gaming.

But it could provide great release from these troubling times when you do decide to play. There are countless types of games out there that you might want to try. There are combat games, puzzle games, racing games unblocked, and much more. So, try out a variety and see how you get on. You’ll likely notice that gaming can also add a social element to your life right now. While we can’t see friends or meet new people face to face, gaming allows you to collaborate and play with others from your own home.

Fitness Tracking Gadgets

Fitness is something that has taken a big hit this pandemic. Usually, many of us are signed up for gym memberships and find this a simple and comfortable way to get the exercise that we need. Gyms provide all of the equipment you could possibly need for your workout and they also allow you to exercise in a comfortable, well-heated, or air-conditioned indoor space out of the elements. No getting rained on. No freezing. No being too hot.

It’s ideal. But many gyms have closed now and people are struggling to maintain their fitness from home. This is where fitness tracking equipment can come in useful. It’s recommended that the average adult gets one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week or seventy-five minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise per week.

This can include around 10,000 steps a day. Fitness tracking equipment, such as the Fitbit or other similar brands, can help to monitor what you’re doing and can allow you to see whether you need to exercise more to stay fit and healthy. It can track steps, monitor heart rate, and otherwise alert you to your fitness levels.

Hopefully, some of these gadgets could prove useful for you and will make day-to-day life in this pandemic easier!
